Las Vegas has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems — those unique stores around Las Vegas that we might not all know about. Welcome to Shopping Confidential. Fashion savvy and want to share your favorite local boutique? Drop us a line and tell us why you should be featured.
Jaime Lynch, the lead singer of Fantasy at the Luxor, confessed her love of mixing vintage and modern pieces when she shared her vintage Louis Vuitton handbag, so we had to find out where she likes to shop. Here, the sexy lead offers up some of her favorite finds, where she likes to shop and how she puts together her outfits.
What was the first vintage piece you ever bought? Or was it something someone gave you?
One of the first vintage pieces I bought was a one-piece polyester jumpsuit from the '70s. My girlfriend and I were going disco skating and I needed an outfit. I found the jumpsuit and made them into shorts. It turned out super cute and I was hooked! But my favorite pieces are the ones that came from my grandmother; she had very classic taste.
Where do you shop for vintage clothing in Las Vegas?
There are some really great places in Vegas that sell vintage apparel, but believe it or not, my favorite place to shop (and donate) is the Goodwill. I love scouring the racks for that one perfect piece. You would be surprised how many amazing pieces there are if you take the time to search.
What do you typically look for with vintage pieces?
I think that it's really a personal preference for each individual. I typically look for pieces that speak to my individual style. Of course, the shape of the garment, fit and overall condition are important; but if you really like the piece, I say go for it.
Any era you prefer to shop?
I love the '70s and '80s, but there are so many great pieces that can come out of any era.
What are some of the great pieces you've found locally?
Recently I found a beautiful, long leather jacket that is in perfect condition. I also found an old school sweater from the '60s and a brand new '80s Esprit bag with the tags still on it.
Any tips for pairing vintage with modern pieces?
Well I'm no expert, but I think sometimes just pairing modern day accessories with a vintage piece can really make a statement, or vice versa. For example, if you have a great vintage dress, try pairing it with a modern day belt, shoes and purse. Overall, I think the most important factor is just being true to your own individual style. Bottom line: If you like it, rock it.
