Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for the second annual Racked Young Guns, our search for the country's best up-and-coming designers. The goal is simple: to find creative people making beautiful things you haven't already seen, and to highlight their work this summer on the blog.
To be eligible, nominees must be 35 or under—unless their collections are under two years old. (After all, designers often spend years working for other big names before launching their own lines.) They must be based in the United States, and although they might not be household names now, they must be wildly talented. We're looking for the Pamela Loves, the Alexander Wangs, the Nicholas Kirkwoods of the future.
Know a brilliant jewelry designer, a knitwear genius, or a milliner par excellence? We want to hear about them, which is why we're opening up our nominations right here, right now. Through Tuesday, May 20, use the link in the previous sentence or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know your selection.
Once we have our list, we'll put our heads together with a panel of fashion industry experts who've agreed to serve on the Young Guns deliberation committee. To keep things as transparent as possible, the entire process, from the nominations to the deliberations, will be presented in full view in this space until July, when we'll announce our final winner.
