Meet Curios, the retail shop that's touting itself as "way beyond your average gift shop," coming to The Cromwell when it opens May 21.
Inside find a 1940s train stop with high-vaulted ceilings, leather adorned walls, newspaper-print tile and distressed wooden planks. Expect to discover accessories, notebooks, plates and coasters based on Deborah Anderson's photography, dubbed "Marie Antoinette meets modern times."
Brands include Tokyo Milk bath products, Papaya accessories and stationery, Ray Ban glasses and Nixon watches will line the shelves, as well as one-of-a-kind souvenirs. Examples teased include chess piece candles reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland as well as top hats, flasks and grooming items such as gin and tonic-scented mustache wax.
Hotel guests can shop here for wine, gourmet snacks, chocolate, bow ties, vintage jewelry, headphones and even retro electronics including old-school telephones and record players. Also on the agenda, an ornate vase that functions as a toilet brush and the world's most chic trash bin available for sale. As Curios says, "Some things you'll just have to see in person."
