Hold the phone. Shopping is getting a little more interesting at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Yesterday news dropped that Beckley Boutique hightailed it out of the second level of the resort. Now comes word that its replacement will be none other than Rent the Runway, the curated collection of high-end designer outfits you can rent for the night.
That means a massive closet filled with more than 190 designers that include Matthew Williamson, Badgley Mischka, Vera Wang and more. It's kind of like borrowing your best friend's coolest outfits without paying the big bucks you would normally shell out for such a pricey purchase.
It's not just dresses. Find handbags, accessories and jewelry as well.
And what better place than Vegas for this to land? "Las Vegas is one of the only places on earth where it's not only appropriate but pretty much required to wear something outrageous every night of the year," Jennifer Hyman, chief executive officer and co-founder of Rent the Runway, says in a press release. "Who better to get you into that gold sequined mini-dress than Rent the Runway?"
Already the new boutique, opening just in time for New Year's Eve on Dec. 27, plans to offer same-day dress rentals for those unexpected last-minute plans. Rent the Runway even concocted what it calls a Cocktail Menu of style options. Look for "The Manhattan, featuring floor-length and fabulous gowns, The Lemon Drop, featuring sweet silhouettes, and The Fireball, featuring sequins cocktail dresses."
Those who already know they're headed to Vegas can order dresses there in advance. Or how about this? Group rentals for weddings or bachelorette party packages that include boozy brunch styling parties. Rent the Runway already plans to partner with beauty lines to offer up an entire makeover on the spot.
Rental prices will range from $50 to $450 and the store will feature garment sizes 0 to 22. The store will be open Monday through Saturday from 1 to 10 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m.
